Not so long ago, in a galaxy not so far away, lived a fan known as Saints Fett.
When Larry Jehle, Jr., passed away in February of 2014 at just 30 years old, condolences poured in from players like Drew Brees, and from fans as far away as New Zealand. Even his family had no idea of the profound impact Jehle had on those he met, although they shouldn’t have been surprised. Larry Jehle was a special person and a rare soul. Despite a battle with childhood leukemia and later a failing heart, his life was about working tirelessly for others. He never forgot what it was like to be a kid in the hospital and spent countless hours as Saints Fett, volunteering his time to children’s charities and events. At Champions Square, he became a fan favorite, leading the Who Dat charge before every game and serving as the perfect ambassador for the city and the team.
Few of those he touched knew Jehle was ill and waiting for a new heart to replace his own. His family believes that his passion for costuming as Saints Fett gave him a little extra time here and a reason to push on as long as he did. The world lost a noble fan and a good man on that day in 2014. The selflessness of Saints Fett will forever live on in the hearts of the Who Dat Nation.
